Chapter 5 and 6

This post will be about chapter 5 and 6. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Chapter five deals with Sam's 16th birthday and with Sam meeting Alicia who worries about herself because her period is late. So they meet at Starbucks but as Sam goes home to fetch money to buy a pregnancy test, he stays at home where he thinks about old stories of his dad. Then he searches answers on the poster of TH (Tony Hawk) but he finds no fitting answers for how to act in this desperate situation. In the end Sam decides to take Tony Hawks poster down.

Chapter 5 ends with an interesting quote.

"And then TH played a strange trick  on me, so he probably is a god after all." (p.80, ll.21-22)

I think this quote reveals everybody that something important will happen in chapter 6.

Chapter six tells a futuristic dream of Sam in which he wakes up in a strange bed with Alicia and their son Roof. He can't explain where he is and why, because he can't remember to fall asleep. The baby cries and Alicia wants Sam to take care of the baby but he is not able to do so. They both go to college and Sam looks for the baby whereby he is totally overstrained."And if it was my life thet I'd seen,well, I didn't want to love it." (p. 99 ll. 23-24). He also meets his old friend Rabbit and has a long conversation with him. Afterwards he eats something at McDonald's where he meets a black lady which has got a baby, too. She teaches him how to change nappies. Back home his mother has been waiting for him. They talk about college and Sam's daily routine while they have a walk with Roof outside. He recognizes his mother to be pregnant.

summary-what we´ve done so far

Hi guys!

This is a little Update what we´ve done so far in class.

So, first I have to say I really like the novel and the blog, but it invests so much time in it.

After our teacher said that we do the stuff with the blog, I thought that´s easy and you can do that in a few minutes. But now I´m bound to say, it´s really hard work.

What I like and don´t like?

I really like to write my own opinion and my thoughts in this blog. For us it´s a new experience and it´s more fun than write a class test.

I don´t like how we work in class. In class we summarize the chapters and stuff like that. The majority don´t knoe how to design and create the blog or how we can use videos or little movies for the blog.

What I like to do in class?

Maybe it makes sence if we would do the stuff with create our blog. We can do a diskussion what we like and don´t like, so we can interchange our experience with the blog and the novel.

And my wish for the next class period is that we diskuss things we want to do.

I hope the following weeks are as nice as the last three weeks.

The chapters 2 & 3 & 4

Hello guys!

You all want to know what happens in Chapter 2?! And maybe also in Chapter 3 and 4?

Here it is!:)

Chapter two deals with Sam who first continues presenting his environment and familiar background like his skating friends Rabbit and Rubbish and the misfortune in his family that people "slip up on the first step". Then Sam's mother invites him to a party of a friend where he meets a girl called Alicia for the first time. They fall in love and so they meet again for another date where they have sex together for the first time.

So, in Chapter 3 Alicia and Sam are a couple and spend their whole time together. It couldn't be better and it's perfect for Alicia and Sam. "I dreamed my way through school for the next few weeks. I dreamed my way through life, really. It was all just waiting." (page 47, line 1).

Only Sam´s mum is worrying about their relationship and asks Sam about Alicia and him, e.g. having sex. Sam doesn't know what to do, so he doesn't say anything.

Bye the way, which one would be glad to answer this question? Nobody.

Sam and Alicia

In Chapter 4 the relationship between Alicia and Sam isn't as nice as before. "It's not that things started to go wrong between me and Alicia. It just stopped being so nice." (p.60, ll.1-2). He spends less time with her, because Alicia is starting to annoy him. This happens when he meets Alicia's parents who give him the feeling to be not good enough for their daughter. After time he thinks about that Problem, he plans to split up with her.

"I wouldn't be so scared of her, [Alicia] then." (p. 56, ll.22). One quote, many questions.

Why is Sam's mum Annie scared of the relationship?

-Maybe she thinks that Sam does anything without thinking, anything worse.

-Maybe she thinks that Sam doesn't tell her anything, because he can talk with Alicia. It would be a change for her.

-Maybe she doesn't know if Alicia is a good girl, because she doesn't know Alicia and her familiy.

Chapter 1

Hello guys!

I'm back with a new post, my first post.

In this one I would tell you what happens in the first chapter. But at the beginning the blurb tells you what happens in the text:

Sam is sixteen and Tony Hawk, the famous Skateboarder, is his hero. When he meets Alicia everything seems perfect. Life seems to be ticking on nicely, when suddenly one moment changes their lives forever and presents him with new responsibilities he can't run away from even though he tries too.

And now for everybody who doesn't know Tony Hawk, google him. I had to do that too:)

The first chapter is written from the ego-perspektive, Sam is narrating the story., but you don't know where the story takes place. You know it's in an english-speaking Country, but definitely not in America ("that sounds a bit american to me..", page 13 line 26). In class, we think he lives in London, Great Britian, but we don't know exactly. If I know it, I will tell you where Sam live

Sams parents are divorced and he lives together with his mum in a small flat. He is a big skate fan, especially of his idol Tony Hawk. Then he gets a present from his mum, a Tony Hawk poster. He confesses that he talks to the poster if he has got problems which he can´t discuss with his mum or with Alicia. Sam is not very good at school, except for arts, and that he plans to study arts after high school.

So, this was my second post and I hope you like it!

My first post - Introduction

Hello guys!

First I want to say ´Hello` and say somethig about me.

So, my name is Alina and I live in Germany.

In school we started reading a novel called `Slam`, written by Nick Hornby.

Our teacher had the idea to write a blog with our thoughts and feelings about the novel.

 

First we all said `What´s fucking wrong with you?´, but then we slept one night and said `Yeah, okay. Let's try it.`

So, here we are.

One or maybe two times a week I write a new blog entry and I hope you'll like all of them :)

This was my little introduction for you and now you can satrt and read my blog!
