My last blog entry :(

Hey guys and welcome back!

I have to say that this one is my last blog entry. We are finished with the novel and our teacher gave us the last task.

I can say that I really liked to write the blog and the novel too. I'll miss it.:(

First everybody of us were skeptical, but now we like to write the blog and all thats stuff....

Hopefully I can do one more time.:)

But I hope you like my blog entries and I can say that it was a funny and interesting thing.

So, my last task is to write five or six adjectives about "Slam".

Let's start!

Interesting: When I started reading the book, I thought after the first chapter "okay, that's really interesting!" I mean, if you into the novel, you love to read it. Both characters are intersting in their own way. So, you want to know what happens next in their situation.

Funny        : I know the thematic isn't funny, but at some points I really have to laugh, e.g.the chapter in which Sam's mum Annie told Sam's dad that Alicia is pregnant and his reaction was laughing, or when Sam had the nightmare and didn't know anything.

Detailed     : I wrote in some of my other blog entries that I really like how detailed Nick Hornby wrote the novel. Then I can feel with the characters and that is what made a novel or whatever. Sam's feelings are very detailed and that is what I like in the novel.

Confusing  : At the beginning I was very confused because of Alicia. I don't understand her Change in matters of her attidude over the thematic sex. But now I have to say I'm still confusing of her change, but okay, everybody like he or she wants.

New            : I never did this before, write a blog. So, it was very new and exciting for me. And I never read a book like this one, about this thematic.

Role model: I know that this isn't a adjective, but I don't know a adjective for this, neither in english nor in german. But I don't know if I could manage the whole thing like Sam and Alicia. Sure hey have help from their partens, but I think if I would know that I'm pregnant with 16 years, I don't know what to do, what to feel and what to say. The only thing I could do is to cry the whole time....

So, this was my blog about the novel "Slam".

letter to the NYC Human Resources Administration

Our teacher gave us the task to write a letter to the NYC Human Resources Administration, so here´s my letter:

Dear NYC Human Resources Administration,

in school we read the novel ´Slam´ and during this unit our teacher showed us your poster.
The kids are very unhappy and it´s true what they say, but honestly I think to have a baby is a good thing.
Sure, it means a lots of responsibility and patience, things that teenagers haven´t and kids are expensive and all these things. Ì´m sure nobody wants to have a child with 15 years and without any graduation.
But if teen girls get pregnant, they have their parents and the parents help them with their grandchild. So, I think it´s not the best thing that can happen to a 15 years old girl, but you can handle with it.
Ans I´m sure that not only the teens are alienated but also older people.

Maybe you think about my words and the next time I see one of your posters, hopefully I can say ´okay, now they are absolutly right!´

My favourite chapter

Welcome back, guys!

In my last entry, we talked about my favourite character and today we'll talk about my favourite chapter.

The chapter which I really really love is chapter 5. Chapter 5 is the chapter in which Alicia tells Sam that she's late with her Periode and that she´s probably pregnant.

On Sam's sixteenth birthday Sam gets a text message from Alicia in the evening that she needs to see him urgently. Sam answers her and they organize to meet. Sam guesses that she probably is pregnant and just hopes, that it's not that message, but he is prepared for it. When Sam sits down next to Alicia she tells him that she's late with her period and Sam understands her right away because he thought she was going to say that. Alicia hasn't been to the doctor's and they decide to buy a pregnancy test at the next drugstore. Because they don't have enough money, they arrange that Alicia goes home to get some money and Sam waits for her. But Sam goes away and switches off his cellphone. He doesn't want to realize it and doesn’t want to think about the future. 

In my last blog enrty I said that I like when you read a book and you can feel with the main character . So, in chapter 5 you can feel with Sam and understand his feelings and that is what I really like in this chapter and in the whole book. The whole situation is real.

Maybe some of my classmates hate a chapter like this, because they hate Sam. So, they can't understand why Sam reacts like he reacts, but I think it's completely comprehensible, at least for me. But everybody has his own point of view. For me it's not important that you have the same point of view, but rather that you can understand why I choose this chapter.

In the next step, I have to ask questions to Nick Hornby, he's the author.

-Why do you choose Sam (and Alicia) as the main characters and not Sam's mom Annie?

-Why do Sam and Alicia choose the name ´Rufus/Roof´? It's horrible!:)

My favourite character

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog :)

Today I told you which character I like the most and why I like him the most. stuff like this.

I have to say that the first person in my head was Sam´s dad, because he was the one who's reaction to the pregnancy was the coolest, but then I remember that he doesn't want to be really into Sam's life, so I choose another one.

So, my favourite character is Sam.

Sam

I think ist because Sam is the person who is the most time in the foreground and you know more about Sam than about the other ones. Although you know really much about Alicia, but you doesn't know so much about her feelings.

For example, I really like Sam's reaction to Alicia's pregnancy because the reaction is real and you know that somebody who go through the same, can have the same reaction than Sam.

All in all, I think Sam is a really cool and interesting person.

And because of the description of Sam's feelings, you can feel with him and that makes him a interesting person for the whole story and for the readers. I really like it if i read a novel and you can feel with the main character and maybe know what he can do next. And I think if a author can manage that people can feel with the main character, he's a very good writer and the novel is great too.

Maybe if another person is the main character, I think I would like him or her the most, only it's because their are the charcters who are in the foreground and you know the most about them. That makes a person fascinating.

I hope I can explain why Sam is my favourite person in the novel. Maybe it's hard to understand why, but then buy the novle and read it!

Chapter 5 and 6

Hey guys! What's up?

This post will be about chapter 5 and 6. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Chapter five deals with Sam's 16th birthday and with Sam meeting Alicia who worries about herself because her period is late. So they meet at Starbucks but as Sam goes home to fetch money to buy a pregnancy test, he stays at home where he thinks about old stories of his dad. Then he searches answers on the poster of TH (Tony Hawk) but he finds no fitting answers for how to act in this desperate situation. In the end Sam decides to take Tony Hawks poster down.

Chapter 5 ends with an interesting quote.

"And then TH played a strange trick  on me, so he probably is a god after all." (p.80, ll.21-22)

I think this quote reveals everybody that something important will happen in chapter 6.

Chapter six tells a futuristic dream of Sam in which he wakes up in a strange bed with Alicia and their son Roof. He can't explain where he is and why, because he can't remember to fall asleep. The baby cries and Alicia wants Sam to take care of the baby but he is not able to do so. They both go to college and Sam looks for the baby whereby he is totally overstrained."And if it was my life thet I'd seen,well, I didn't want to love it." (p. 99 ll. 23-24). He also meets his old friend Rabbit and has a long conversation with him. Afterwards he eats something at McDonald's where he meets a black lady which has got a baby, too. She teaches him how to change nappies. Back home his mother has been waiting for him. They talk about college and Sam's daily routine while they have a walk with Roof outside. He recognizes his mother to be pregnant.

summary-what we´ve done so far

Hi guys!

This is a little Update what we´ve done so far in class.

So, first I have to say I really like the novel and the blog, but it invests so much time in it.

After our teacher said that we do the stuff with the blog, I thought that´s easy and you can do that in a few minutes. But now I´m bound to say, it´s really hard work.

What I like and don´t like?

I really like to write my own opinion and my thoughts in this blog. For us it´s a new experience and it´s more fun than write a class test.

I don´t like how we work in class. In class we summarize the chapters and stuff like that. The majority don´t knoe how to design and create the blog or how we can use videos or little movies for the blog.

What I like to do in class?

Maybe it makes sence if we would do the stuff with create our blog. We can do a diskussion what we like and don´t like, so we can interchange our experience with the blog and the novel.

And my wish for the next class period is that we diskuss things we want to do.

I hope the following weeks are as nice as the last three weeks.
